The 2013 Ride the Tide Kayak Float & Race sponsored by Oak Island Parks & Recreation, The Adventure Kayak Company, and Blue Water Point Marina saw floaters and paddlers depart from the Beth Leyden Memorial Kayak Launch at the Oak Island Recreation
Center and arrive 5.3 miles down the Davis Canal at Blue Water Point Marina on Saturday, April 13, 2013. Oak Island Mayor Betty W. Wallace set the floaters down with a blast of the fog horn. Rebecca Squires, Recreation Athletics Supervisor, was on hand to help the event go smoothly and launch kayaks into the water.
